The judge said the sentence was intended to serve as a message to employers that operate on the border with Mexico to avoid doing business with organized crime. “If a blind eye to the source of cash from Mexico is very likely to be very dirty accepting money from drug trafficking and supporting the operations of the brutal drug cartels,” Kaplan emphasized at sentencing.
